Carriage Style Homes: A Distinctive Living Experience

Carriage style homes, also known as carriage houses or coach houses, were historically built to house horse-drawn carriages giving the homeowner the convenience of having everything in one place.

Although not many use a horse and carriage to get around any longer, today’s carriage homes have taken this concept and applied it to the way we live today. These homes have evolved to offer a blend of convenience and modern functionality.

While both carriage homes and townhomes are attached dwellings, they differ significantly in terms of design and layout. These carriage homes all include a 2-car garage for your modern mode of transportation.

But what makes these homes unique is that they do not share common walls with neighbors. They are only adjoined by a storage room in the back of the home off of the covered patio. This characteristic offers residents the advantage of living as if they were in a single-family home but with less of the maintenance.

Ownership and Maintenance

Carriage homes are commonly individually owned, just like traditional single-family homes. This means the homeowner is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the home, inside and out. In some cases, the lawn maintenance is handled by the HOA resulting in a beautiful, manicured streetscape.

One of the key advantages of carriage style homes is the flexibility they offer. Homeowners have the freedom to personalize their living space according to their preferences, from using a flex space as an office or an exercise room, to adding designer trim and specialty paint. This level of personalization allows residents to create a truly unique and tailored living environment!

Community and Amenities

Carriage homes can be found in any type of community from a master planned community to a small intimate collection of homes in the inner city. These communities are designed to foster a sense of belonging and provide residents with a vibrant and convenient lifestyle.

Community amenities

With its distinctive design, individual ownership, and convenient lifestyle, the carriage home stands apart from the traditional townhome. By understanding these differences, you can make an informed decision based on you and your family’s preferences and lifestyle.
