Out of all of the cities in the county, there's good reason for why people want to relocate to Raleigh, NC. As an Internet Sales Manager with M/I Homes, I’m often asked what it’s like to live in Raleigh.

Well, I’m partial. I love the weather, the restaurant scene, the arts, and the people. But there is so much more. It was hard to choose, but here are my 7 favorite things about living in Raleigh, NC!

1. Raleigh Is a Very Well-Rounded City

With a population of approximately 500,000, Raleigh is the state capital and is geographically located in the center of the state. We can be to the beach or the mountains within 2 hours.

Raleigh often finds itself on many “Top” or “Best” lists:

2. The Triangle Enjoys a Healthy Job Market

Research Triangle Park (RTP), located in the heart of the Triangle, is home to many cutting-edge companies, both in the technology field as well as medical research. Having these major companies in the area naturally draws a plethora of smaller companies and entrepreneurial startups to the area. The job market is one of the strongest you will find anywhere.

3. Higher Education Abounds in The Triangle

The rivalries run high in the Triangle, especially when it comes to college basketball and football! Regardless of which team you pull for, you will have a broad choice of colleges to attend.

From the Ivy League Duke University to smaller private colleges such as Peach College, it would be hard to find an area of the country that has more opportunities to continue your education than in The Triangle. Reaping the benefits of such a strong upper educational base in the areal also leads to a very heathy jobs market as mentioned above.

4. Raleigh’s Dedication to Parks and Arts

Life in Raleigh can’t be all work and school. You will find a wide array of city and county parks, historical buildings, museums, theatrical plays, symphony events, and more. Whimsical art is scattered throughout the city, adding to Raleigh’s charm and character.

Being the state capital of North Carolina, you can find a museum on just about any topic you can imagine in Raleigh.

Ready to get out and soak up all the culture, outdoor attractions, and so much more Raleigh has to offer? Plan your bucket list of Raleigh things to do.

5. Enjoy the Amazing Culinary Scene in Raleigh

There will be no shortage of dining choices as you begin to explore the Raleigh area. Perhaps the most notable chef (who also chose to live in Raleigh) is 2019 James Beard Award Winner Ashley Christensen, with seven dining establishments in the Raleigh area.

You’ll also want to check out some delicious NC barbeque at The Pit, where pit master Ed Mitchell won the rib challenge on Food Network’s “Throwdown with Bobby Flay.”

6. World-Renowned Medicine Is at Your Fingertips

Three major research hospitals are located in the Triangle: Wake Medical Center, University of North Carolina Hospitals, and Duke Hospital. Each of these is a major research facility with state-of-the-art technology and practices.

In recent years we’ve seen each of these organizations open smaller “neighborhood” hospitals, making them even closer than before. Three of the state’s top 5 hospitals are right in our own backyard!

7. Living in Raleigh Is a Smart Financial Move

While there are no guarantees in life, it is important to do your own research and make a smart move that makes financial sense for your family. It’s pretty amazing that The Triangle area has two cities in the top 10 recession-resistant in the nation: Raleigh and Cary.

Bonus: Finding the Perfect Home in The Triangle Is Made Easy

From stunning townhomes to sprawling single family homes, you’ll find the perfect home for your needs in Raleigh or its beautiful surrounding suburbs, such as Garner, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Holly Springs, and more.

M/I Homes makes the home search less stressful and more enjoyable with intentionally designed open-concept floorplans, luxurious design highlights, and coveted locations for our communities. Find your dream home in Raleigh!

So, whatever items are most important to your family, I’m confident that you will find Raleigh to be one of the most impressive areas to call home.
