You like the thought of being near 520 miles of shoreline for boating, fishing, swimming, and afternoons lakeside with a cool drink. But you want all the benefits of city life, too.

Huntersville, located in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, has earned an A+ rating on Niche.com, earning it recognition as being one of the best places to live in North Carolina.

About 20 minutes north of Charlotte, Huntersville combines the pleasures of its Lake Norman setting with the enticements of Charlotte nearby. Living in Huntersville offers residents a certain fondness with its suburban feel.

What's in Huntersville? We're glad you asked.

Relax with a day on the water at Lake Norman

You have so many options for fun on the lake! Rent a boat or jet skis. See if waterskiing is the talent you never knew you had. Take your family on a dinner cruise from Queen’s Landing. Or explore the waterways on stand-up paddle boats during a moonlight tour.

Rejuvenate with a new experience in nature

Enjoy an array of activities – whitewater rafting and kayaking, flatwater kayaking, rock climbing, ziplines, mountain biking, hiking trails and even summertime concerts. In North Mecklenburg Park, take advantage of lighted basketball courts, tennis courts, and soccer fields. Spend the day with greenery and wildlife in the 1,500 acres at Latta Nature Preserve, and with birds of prey at the Carolina Raptor Center. Or check one of our four public golf courses nearby.

Root on your favorite sports teams

Lake Norman communities are known for their NASCAR race shops and races. The NFL Carolina Panthers and NBA Charlotte Hornets have got you covered if major league sports are more your style. For something different, plan a night out with the Charlotte Knights, our minor league baseball team. (Choose a seat on the third base side of their Uptown stadium for a striking view of the Charlotte skyline.)

Revel in all the shopping you can handle

Birkdale Village gives you more than 60 stores, 10 restaurants, and a 16-screen movie theater in an outdoor setting centered around an inviting main street. Northlake Mall in north Charlotte has everything from Aerie to Zales, and Rosedale Shopping Center is convenient for everyday needs (which include, of course, donuts).

Round up the family for a day of fun for all

Parents, no worries: this area is a kids’ haven! One of our favorite places for children from infants through age 7 is the science museum, Discovery Place for Kids. With so many ways to play here, you’ll have trouble extracting them to head home. A newcomer to the entertainment scene for older children, teens, and plenty of other folks is Frankie’s. Think mini golf, go-karts, 100 arcade games, a free fall drop zone, bowling, laser tag, and more, all in one massive amusement park.

Restaurants and breweries for days

Forbes called Charlotte a top ten new "Beer City" for its more than 60 breweries and distilleries in the area. Locally owned Huntersville and Lake Norman breweries include Crafty Guys Beer Shop, Primal Brewery, D9 Brewing Company, and Eleven Lakes Brewing. As for restaurants, the area is booming with possibilities, from North Carolina barbecue joints to the nationally acclaimed Kindred in nearby Davidson.

Reveal your future with Davidson College

The respected liberal arts college in Davidson is a great resource for Lake Norman residents. Concerts, theater, art exhibitions, and talks with best-selling authors are among its offerings, open to everyone. In addition, the Town of Davidson has several locally owned restaurants, boutiques, and coffee shops. You may want to step inside the Main Streets Book store and grab a good read.
