8 of the Best Things to Do in Waxhaw

Driving into this southern town, you can’t miss the tall water tower at the corner of Highway 16 and North Main Street, where people of the community can gather together for events.

Locally owned shops, restaurants, and a healthy dose of small-town charm are just a few of the things that make people fall in love with Waxhaw, NC.

Being only 45 minutes from Charlotte, this quaint town is a breath of fresh air if you want to get away from the city. Everything is practically within walking distance, allowing you to have time to get to all the best shops and meet your new neighbors.

1. Waxhaw Farmers Market

The Waxhaw Farmers Market is open most Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are so many great products to get, including vegetables, local honey, baked goods, fresh eggs, and other local selections. You'll love kickstarting your weekend here!

2. Waxhaw Antique Mart

Find a new special piece to display in your home at the Waxhaw Antique Mart, boasting collectibles, art, furniture, and other unique finds. It’s easy to spend a lot of time checking out all of the cool pieces here, so give yourself plenty of time to explore!

3. Cookie Do Bliss

While you make your way through downtown, satisfy that sweet tooth with beautifully crafted dessert choices.

With about 15 different cookie dough choices, you can create a bowl with your favorite flavors and maybe add in a scoop of ice cream. You also have the option to have a specialty dessert such as a layered brownie, fresh-baked cookies, milkshakes, and more.

4. Cork & Ale

This restaurant could potentially be your last stop of the day if you decide to unwind with a glass of wine. This wine bar, taproom, and restaurant all in one is the perfect place to grab a drink with friends or have a date night. Choose from a variety of red and white wines, craft beers, and delicious eats.

5. Cane Creek Park

If you want to reset in nature for the day, a trip to Cane Creek Park is the perfect location for you. There are shelters, walking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a disc golf course, and you can even fish from the bank on the pond.

Other activities include paddle boats, mini-golf, and a beach area where children can play, or you can kick back and relax with the gentle water creating the perfect afternoon ambiance.

6. The Dreamchaser’s Brewery

Another great place to unwind after a long day is The Dreamchaser’s Brewery, a locally owned joint in the heart of downtown. This brewery is in the old volunteer fire department building, which ties it deeper into Waxhaw’s history. You can get a craft beer poured from the tap or choose to have a glass of wine instead.

7. Crossroads Coffee House

You’ll go back time and time again to try their gourmet lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, milkshakes, smoothies, hot chocolate, and tea. There is also a variety of baked goods and snacks to try!

8. Museum of the Waxhaws

Did you know that the town was established as a memorial to one of the US Presidents? Take the family to check out the Museum of the Waxhaws' different artifacts and read stories about the town’s beginning and how it has developed over the years.
