At M/I Homes we’re all about creating spaces our homeowners can truly transform into the rooms they’ve always wanted and needed! Read Ruby Robles' story and see her amazing vision come to life in her new home in the Greater Austin area.
What caused you to start looking for a new home?
Our lease was coming due and we had been living in an apartment for about 3.5 years, so we felt it was time to purchase a home.
We have been living in the Kyle area for several years now, and we knew we wanted to stay around the area. We spotted this neighborhood and fell in love. We wanted something quiet, hidden but close to everything at the same time. 6 Creeks was exactly what we were looking for.
How did you find out about M/I Homes and 6 Creeks?
We found out about 6 Creeks and M/I by driving around Kyle, in search of new neighborhoods. We loved the design of the neighborhood and the future plans.
What was some of the must-haves you two were wanting in your new home?
We wanted to make sure we picked a 1-story house, open-feel concept. We lived in a third-floor apartment and we definitely didn’t want any more stairs.
We also wanted a big closet and we noticed this specific floorplan had a bedroom on the other side of the owner’s closet, which made it a perfect choice for us. We had decided we wanted to remove one of the walls to connect the spaces to make the dream closet. We love the openness and how much light comes inside our new home.
I started my YouTube channel about 2 years and it's all about fashion. I felt I needed my own room to film/get ready. I thought I would need a big walk-in closet to do both. Since I have to show the clothes that I buy and constantly be switching outfits, it made sense to knock down the wall.
I also made a chandelier with lots of pampas grass. I just had a vision of how I wanted every single room to look like. I'm going for a French provincial/French country decor.
I’m not rushing the buying of furniture until I find the exact piece I envisioned; it might definitely take longer than expected to finish every room. I also love to go to luxury furniture stores, look at celebrities’ houses, and browse Pinterest and get ideas from their décor to make the vision come true without breaking the bank.
Husbands always get their office room/man cave, so I felt like I also needed my own room! I'm a shopaholic and I love fashion.
What were some of the highlights of building your new home (design, construction, etc.)?
We really enjoyed the design process—it was easy! Specially for us being first-time homebuyers, we always imagined buying a new home.
When we decided to build it, we we’re definitely nervous since we didn’t know what we were doing, but M/I was very organized, timely, and communicative.
We had so many choices to choose from. We also enjoyed getting weakly photo updates of our home while it was getting built.
Not to mention Josh, our builder, who did amazing communicating every step of the way of what was getting done and what was in the future to get done. To this day he is still very attentive and helps out if we ever need him.
What is your favorite part about your home now that you have moved in?
Our favorite part of the house is definitely how everything came together, to see everything we had picked out come all together. It was so exciting.
From the color of the walls to the floor, the vision came together for us. It was definitely much more than we had imagined. We loved the size of the home.
We love seeing how our homeowners live out their dreams in their brand new homes. Catch Ruby dreaming up her latest home décor vision, and read other happy homeowner stories to see how they have personalized their spaces!
